How do we prevent food wastage?
    • Order only what you can finish

    • Ask for less rice or noodles if you aren’t able to eat that much

    • Say “no” to side dishes they’ll not consume

About Food Wastage
    • Food waste accounts for about 10% of total waste generated

    • However only 16% is recycled

    • Amount of food waste generated has increased by 40% in past 10 years

    • 568,000 tonnes disposed of by households and the food industry in 2008 to around 809,800 tonnes in 2017.

Why should we prevent food wastage?
  • When food is wasted, more food has to be sourced to meet the food demand.
  • Affects our food security (SG imports over 90% of our food supply)
  • SG will need to build more waste disposal facilities, unsustainable for our land-scarce country
  • Resources used for production and disposal of food is also wasted
  • Results in an increase of our carbon footprint, contributing to global warming
